Hope Community Church asks you to help us offer hope to a community devastated by hopelessness. The Bikes for Kids Program is an initiative sponsored by Hope Community Church to help combat poverty in Northwest Pasadena. Poverty is a very real issue in this particular community.[featured-image]
In Northwest Pasadena the median family income is $27,350. 40% of families with children below 5 years of age live below the federal poverty level. 62% of families are among the working poor. The most disheartening aspect of this harsh reality is that children are the ones who suffer the most when resources are scarce.
Through the Bikes for Kids Program, we hope to transform the lives of youth in the greater NW Pasadena area by providing them with gifts that they might not otherwise receive (i.e. bicycles) due to financial hardship. In addition, we hope to establish real, affirming relationships with the children, eventually establishing a youth mentoring/tutoring program to demonstrate to them(and their families) that our investment moves beyond the financial and looks toward social, spiritual, and emotional development.
$5 here. $10 there. Each of these donations can help fund a handlebar, tire, or a pedal. Every little bit counts. We will be purchasing the bicycles in the first week of December, so please join us in this effort as soon as you can. The projected cost of each bicycle is approximately $100. We hope to have obtained enough funding to purchase 20 bicycles. Please join us in this effort and provide a group kids with a glimmer of hope.
