The second thing you need to help eliminate fear in your life? Make sure you have something that you can pull in front of you (a shield).[featured-image]
This post is part confession, part exhortation. The confession? I usually went to haunted houses with close friends or family members. On one occasion my big sister went with me. Little did she know that she would be of great help to me that night. As we walked through a dark, rancid room and there was an attack that came from my left. So I did what any brother would do for his big sister. I pulled her right in front of me to shield me from that monster. What? Better her than me right? I figured I could explain to everyone that she was sacrificed for the greater good, right? The exhortation here Always take your shield of faith to prevent fear from creeping in.
Unlike my sister, your faith is willing to stand in front of you when you confront the various monsters in your life. Paul reaffirms this in Ephesians: “Above all, taking the shield of faith, whereby you shall be able to quench the fiery darts of the wicked one” (Ephesians 6:16). Remember Jesus’ conversation with the devil in the wilderness? He used his shield properly. “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from God’s mouth” (See Matthew 4:4) (dart blocked). Just like my sister, your faith has to be available as a shield when doubt comes in. Remember that question I had: What if you didn’t pass the bar exam? *holding up shield of faith* Oh, I passed. I prepared diligently. The Spirit of God dwells in me and I am destined to succeed. And if I didn’t, God will give me the grace to take it again. I have absolutely nothing to worry about! Make sure your shield is readily accessible. Otherwise, the enemy will move in and infiltrate your mind with doubt and fear.
Question: How often do you think about using your spiritual armor? Is it sitting in your closet when you leave home?
