Wow…I was going to end this post at that and let y’all soak that in. That’s all can say at this point. Four days away from being a married man. And all I have is…wow. That pretty much sums up the wedding planning experience. There is one thing I wanted you all to know though. And I think it is something that you might need to hear: God is faithful!!!! Yes, in the midst of financial cutbacks…God is faithful. In the midst of hows, whys, and whats…God is faithful. Somebody needs to be encouraged regarding the faithfulness of God today. I wanted to let you know about the faithfulness of God by giving you a bit of our testimony and prayerfully you are encouraged by it.[featured-image]
Where our help comes from….
In one of my earlier notes, I talked about how this wedding was a John and Sheridan production and how we were paying for this whole thing ourselves. WRONG!!!!! I had it all wrong and I’d like to take this opportunity to correct that statement. The Psalmist declares, “I will lift my eyes to the hills from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”-Psalm 121:1-2. This wedding….this wedding right here…is a Kingdom of God Production. As finances started to become thin, I was reminded about the Maker of heaven and earth. How can anything be impossible for the one who formed us from the dust of the ground? The very same one who joined sinew, bones, and skin to create mankind. I don’t know what you are going through right now. I might not know you from Adam, but I know the one who created Adam. If you are looking for help, I challenge you to lift your eyes, lift your voice and declare that your help…comes from the Lord. Your worship creates access to the Throne Room.
Every good gift…
Once we began to remember that God majored in impossibilities, He blessed us in major ways. We received a message one day with a question about the wedding. Over the course of that conversation, we found out that transportation for the wedding would be provided….free of charge!!! My God!!! Also, we decided to cost cut a little bit by deciding not to have videography at our wedding. That is, until one of our great friends who is ridiculously talented in the area of film told us he’d be willing to do the videography…free of charge!!! We are so grateful for divine connections and truly humbled by God’s ability to step in and divinely orchestrate things in such a way that we can’t help but realize it’s Him at work. This past Sunday, we spoke to our musician for the ceremony, who teaches music professionally. Interestingly enough, he is from my hometown (currently living in California) and our families know one another. In fact, he knew Sheridan before we started dating, so she always brags about knowing him longer than I have, despite the fact we’re from the same hometown. This brother is ridiculously talented, Spirit-filled, and one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. So Sunday, he says, “I am honored to play at your wedding and will be doing it free of charge.” Sheridan and I nearly lost it, y’all. In addition, Sheridan and I are good friends with an international jazz recording artists. He promised us before we even got engaged that he’d love to play at the wedding. Man, we almost forgot. Do you know that he contacted us to remind us?!?!?! Look at God.
I’m not telling you all this to brag. I take that back…I am bragging. I’m bragging on God’s faithfulness in the midst of uncertainty. We have experienced what James declares when he says, “every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there can be no variation…” (James 1:17). We are so grateful that there is no variation with God. We may have wavered, but He remained true. Doubt may have crept in, but He remained true. Stress may have gotten the best of us at points, but He remained true. So with four days left before our big day, I wanted to declare to each and every one of you that God is faithful!
Speaking of faithfulness, we certainly are going to be faithful to our promise regarding our wedding favors. We have decided to donate money on behalf of every person who attends our reception to the Beyond Borders Campaign to End Child Servitude in Haiti in lieu of favors. You can read more about the initiative here. We thank you all for joining us on this journey. It is just the beginning and we believe God has great work for us to do in the future. For those of you who will grace us with your presence, we’ll see you on Saturday. For those who won’t be able to make the ceremony, your kind words have shown us how much we are loved and we are eternally grateful. I hope that you have been reminded of God’s faithfulness today and that you are always mindful of the fact that, “with God, all things are possible!!!!!”
