By now you’ve probably read the news report of the young man who was shot by a Charlotte police officer early Saturday morning in the city’s suburbs. The man, Johnathon Ferrell, had just crashed his car and knocked on a door in the neighborhood for help. The resident of the home called the police. Once they showed up, an officer wound up shooting Ferrell 12 times. Various bloggers are commenting on the incident. Since the officer was white and Ferrell was black, there’s a ton of social commentary on the race issues involved here. I watched a short video on the incident. The victim’s mother was interviewed.
His mother’s words near the end of the video stick with me. She forgives the officer who shot her son. I do forgive him…but I want justice. I’m not sure if she’s a Christian (she does have a cross necklace on in the video though, but her words are convicting. Would I have the strength to say the same? I pray I would. Continued prayers for all involved here. Such a tragic situation.
Question: Would you be able to forgive someone for killing a loved one? What do you guys think?
